Moving pictures, since 1997.
J. Andrew is a San Francisco-based filmmaker, writer, director and producer, and the founder of Liberty Lane Films and Liberty Lane Digital.
It started with his father’s camcorder. By sixteen, J was running his own video and photography business, shooting weddings, events and portraits. Nearly three decades later, the gear is better but the instinct hasn’t changed: pay attention, earn the trust of the people in front of the lens, and wait for the truth of the moment to reveal itself.
As a filmmaker, J is drawn to character-driven stories that explore identity, connection, recovery, resilience, and the complicated ways people make meaning from their lives. His multiple-award-winning short films Here For Now and Unbreaking have screened at festivals from San Francisco to Stockholm. He’s currently directing the feature documentary Meet Me at the Club: The Castro Country Club Story, now in post-production. He’s also developing the feature screenplays Pretty Broken People, The Business of Hope, and Let the Man Play, alongside the satirical science-fiction short Claude Ostium.
In 2020, J founded Liberty Lane Films as an independent production company and creative home for original cinematic work, plus story-driven commercial and nonprofit projects: stunning films and photography, branded video, motion graphics, and visual storytelling.
As a producer, J is hands-on from development and fundraising through production management, production, and post. As an impact producer, he builds screenings, campaigns, and public programs that carry a project’s mission to the people it’s for.
Born out of Liberty Lane Films in 2023 to meet the needs of ambitious clients, Liberty Lane Digital is a creative agency serving clients from California to Texas to Connecticut. It brings J’s nearly three decades of branding, design, and creative direction to everyone from Fortune 50 companies to neighborhood nonprofits, drag legends, and DJs.
Whether the project is a documentary or a brand, the approach is the same: people first, pixels second.
